Freediving – immersion in freedom

Freediving what is it? Freediving is called swimming underwater without scuba gear, with the ability to hold your breath for as long as possible.

In addition, freediving is a whole philosophy of life aimed at maximizing the harmonization of a person’s relationship with the outside world. In terms of depth of understanding of the world, the freediving system can be compared, perhaps, only with such a highly organized philosophical system as yoga.

The meaning of the word “Free Diving” consists of two different English words: the word “free”, translated into Russian as “freedom”, and the word “dive”, translated into Russian as “diving”.

For freediving, a whole range of specialized equipment is used, which is a necessary attribute for diving. One type of such equipment is a large number of all kinds of weighting materials, specially designed to maximize the speed of immersion freediver. One type of weighting compound is cargo belts, specially designed to accelerate immersion. Another type of weighting compound is special cargo collars that ensure uniform and maximum efficient movement under water. Another type of specialized freediving accessories are wetsuits that reliably retain heat in the freediving body.
But the most specific and necessary accessories for freediving are freediving hypoxators – devices that provide freediver with protection against the penetration of water into his body and normalize the process of oxygen assimilation in conditions of oxygen starvation. There are a huge number of varieties of hypoxators, and which hypoxator is right for you, only your personal trainer can tell you about this.

The main issue to consider when starting to practice freediving is that the whole system of philosophy and technique of freediving is built on relaxation. That is, the whole system of both philosophy and freediving techniques is built on the complete absence of resistance to the external environment. The less resistance, the less oxygen is consumed, and, therefore, you have more time remaining under water for a rather long amount of time. There is nothing more beautiful than the feeling of harmony with the world around us, and the freediving system is one of the most effective and reliable ways to achieve this harmony.

In the teachings of freediving, where you have to dive without scuba gear, there are a lot of common points with the teachings of Eastern philosophy. A former professor at an American university, Ram Das, while researching and classifying an altered state of consciousness, which many researchers call the “state of samadhi,” indicated that a fairly large number of yoga adherents could go without air for a theoretically impossible amount of time (according to observations, the duration some yogis held up to twenty minutes!).

However, in spite of all the incredible prospects of the practice of freediving, in no case should you engage in such activities yourself. Only with the support of an experienced instructor, you can safely and effectively comprehend all the details of the mysterious teachings of freediving.
