Diving in Borneo

The main distinguishing feature of this unique region, of course, is its incredibly diverse nature. Wet tropical forests penetrate many deep and not very deep rivers, which are sometimes the only possible way through impenetrable thickets. In the jungle, in addition to a huge number of different plants, you can meet representatives of more than twenty unique ethnic groups, each of which has its own mores and customs. Fans of eco-tourism are regular visitors to these unusual places.

The main cities of the island of Borneo are Kuching, which is located in the state of Sarawak, and Kota Kinabalu – the capital of the state of Sabah.

The island of Borneo has an equatorial climate with small temperature fluctuations and a large amount of precipitation, and the best time for tours is from February to April. It is then that the least amount of precipitation occurs, which in strength can sometimes be equated with a natural disaster.

If you decide to practice water activities in Borneo, diving is the best option. On the coast, located in the state of Sarvak in the west of the island, you can find the largest caves in the world. Also near the coast are small islands, buried in the greenery of the tropical jungle. When diving in Borneo, do not forget to visit the land-based beauties of this island. After all, it is here that you can meet such amazing creatures as an owl no more than fifteen centimeters tall, a deer the size of a cat, and sometimes tourists can even see giant butterflies with a wingspan of about thirty centimeters. If you decide to head east Borneo, you can find Mount Kinabalu, which is considered the highest mountain in Southeast Asia.

In Sarawak, you can visit an ethnographic village that combines several villages that are unique in style. Another attraction of Sarawak are caves, decorated with drawings of ancient artists. There is also an orangutan rehabilitation center, two state reserves and a crocodile farm.

In the state of Sabah, you can visit the Gomatong caves, famous for having built hundreds of swift swifts there, and the Turtle Islands (tortoise islands) on the northeast coast of Sabah will surprise you with an abundance of diverse inhabitants, and, first of all, of course, giant turtles, for which these islands have long become a favorite habitat.

If you decide to practice diving, oh. Borneo is the safest place for this, because it is here that the magnificent tropical beaches are reliably protected from too large waves by coral islands. For all people who love diving, Borneo is primarily Sipadan, where the legendary explorer Jacques-Cousteau visited. It was after his visit that Sipadan became one of the most famous places for diving, and now there are as many as thirteen dive sites where you can dive at any time of the year.

Another way to spend free time in Borneo is shopping. Only here in the local markets you can purchase any kind of seafood, as well as all kinds of souvenirs and quite beautiful and high-quality clothing from local manufacturers.
